Terms of Service

Last updated October 26, 2026

1. Agreement

These Terms of Service apply when you use squaredawayroc.com or book a job with Squared Away Home Services LLC ("Squared Away Home Services", "we", "us"). By creating an account or booking a job, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the site. You must be at least 18 to book.

2. Our services

We provide handyman and home services in the Greater Rochester, NY area. Submitting a booking is a request — a job is only confirmed once we accept it and any required deposit is paid.

We do not perform roofing work. Our electrical and plumbing work is limited to minor, like-for-like replacements on existing systems (such as switches, outlets, light fixtures, faucets and toilet parts) with no new circuits, rewiring, panel work, or new or relocated piping, and it is offered only in towns where local rules allow it; we confirm the town from the job address. Framing and structural carpentry are part of what we do, but they often need a permit or engineered plans; we'll tell you what a job requires before we start. If we find that a job needs a permit or a licensed trade, we'll tell you and may decline it, reduce the scope, or refer you elsewhere. Any deposit for work we decline is refunded in full.

Jobs of $500 or more. Online booking is intended for jobs under $500. If a job is expected to come to $500 or more before sales tax, New York General Business Law Article 36-A requires a written, signed contract before the work starts. We'll email you the contract to review and sign electronically (ask us if you'd rather have it on paper), and we'll send you a signed copy. You may cancel that contract, for any reason and at no cost, until midnight of the third business day after you sign it. We generally wait until that period has ended before starting the work, and no payment is due before then. Where the contract and these Terms differ, the contract controls.

If work we've already started for you would grow to $500 or more, we treat the additional work as its own job, with its own contract signed before that work begins. Throughout these Terms, "$500 or more" and "under $500" refer to the price of the job before sales tax.

Jobs that take more than one visit. If a job needs more than one visit, we may reserve additional time slots for you on the same booking. All visits belong to one job: one invoice, one message thread, and one deposit and balance — not a separate charge per visit (a job under a signed contract is billed day by day instead; see Pricing and payment). We'll send a reminder before each visit, and extra visits appear on your booking page and in the calendar file you can download. To change or cancel a later visit, message us. If you cancel a booking, its remaining visits are released; if work has already started, you're responsible for the work completed to that point.

3. Your account

You're responsible for keeping your login secure and for the accuracy of the information you provide (contact details, job address, job description). Let us know right away if you suspect unauthorized access to your account. Changing or resetting your password signs your account out everywhere else it was signed in.

4. Text messages

By providing a phone number, you agree to receive text messages from Squared Away Home Services about your bookings: confirmations, appointment reminders, messages about your job, and a request for a review after a completed job. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Consent to texts is not a condition of booking — you can opt out and we'll use email instead.

You can also choose which emails and texts you receive — booking updates, message alerts, appointment reminders, and review requests — from the Notifications section of your account page. Account security messages (such as verification codes and links) and legal notices about your contract are always sent, because they're needed to protect your account or are required by law.

5. Pricing and payment

Prices. Prices shown on the site are in US dollars (USD) and are starting prices for a typical job of that type. If the actual job is larger or different than described — or we find hidden conditions such as rot, water damage, or mold — we'll explain the change and get your approval in the message thread before doing additional work.

Hourly work. For hourly services, the first-hour charge covers the trip and the first hour on site. Time after the first hour is billed at the posted hourly rate in 30-minute increments.

Materials. Unless a service says otherwise, prices are for labor only. Materials we purchase for your job are billed at cost, with receipts available on request. If you supply your own materials, we aren't responsible for their quality, compatibility, or defects.

Sales tax. Prices do not include New York State and local sales tax. Where it applies — most repair, maintenance and installation work — it is added to your job's total at the rate for the county where the work is done, and shown as its own line on your quote and invoice.

Jobs of $500 or more. A job under a signed contract takes no deposit. We bill at the end of each working day for the work done and the materials supplied that day — a job finished in one day is billed once, when it's done — and send a final invoice for anything not yet billed when the work is complete. Nothing is due for work we haven't done yet.

Deposit and balance (jobs under $500). A deposit of 20% of the job total (including sales tax) is required to confirm a booking once we accept your request. Your time slot is not reserved until the deposit is paid — until then it stays open and may be booked by another customer, unless we have told you we are holding it for you. The remaining balance is due when the job is complete; you'll receive an emailed invoice with a secure payment link. Payments are processed by Stripe, which may save your card so you can check out faster next time. We never see or store your full card number, and we charge your card only when you check out.

6. Cancellations and rescheduling

If you cancel (jobs under $500). You can cancel a confirmed booking from your booking page. With at least 24 hours' notice before the scheduled start time, your deposit is refunded in full. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice, or if we arrive and can't access the job site, forfeit the deposit.

Rescheduling (jobs under $500). To reschedule, use your booking page or message us and we'll find a new time. Rescheduling with at least 24 hours' notice is free.

Jobs of $500 or more. For three business days after you sign the contract you can cancel for any reason at no cost — from your booking page, or by any written notice to us — and anything you've paid is returned within ten business days. After that period, you can cancel or reschedule at no charge with at least 72 hours' written notice before the scheduled start. With less than 72 hours' notice, the contract provides that you reimburse our reasonable, documented costs and losses that result directly from the late change — such as materials bought specifically for your job, or time held for it that we couldn't fill with other work. We'll make reasonable efforts to keep those down, and we'll itemize anything we charge. It is never a flat fee.

If we cancel. If we need to cancel or can't complete your job — for weather, illness, emergencies, or because the job turns out to be outside what we can do — we'll refund your deposit in full or reschedule, your choice. You pay only for work actually completed.

Refund timing. Refunds go back to your original payment method. They're issued immediately on our end but usually take 5–10 business days to appear, depending on your bank.

7. Your responsibilities

Please make sure we have safe access to the work area at the scheduled time, that pets are secured, and that fragile or valuable items near the work area are moved. Tell us about any known hazards before we arrive, including mold, pests, damaged wiring, or — for homes built before 1978 — any known lead-based paint. If you rent, you're responsible for getting any permission your landlord or HOA requires.

We may stop or decline work if conditions are unsafe, and we'll only charge for time actually worked.

8. Our workmanship

We stand behind our work. If something we did fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, contact us and we'll fix it at no charge. This doesn't cover materials you supplied, normal wear and tear, damage from misuse or accidents, or problems caused by pre-existing conditions.

9. Damage and liability

If we damage your property while working, tell us promptly — ideally before we leave, or within 48 hours — so we can document it and make it right. Squared Away Home Services LLC carries general liability insurance.

We aren't responsible for pre-existing damage or defects, conditions hidden behind walls, floors, or ceilings, or problems caused by materials you supplied. To the extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential damages. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that can't legally be limited under New York law.

10. Acceptable use

Don't use the site for anything unlawful, abusive, or fraudulent, and don't interfere with its normal operation. We may cancel bookings or close accounts that violate these Terms.

11. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. If a disagreement comes up, please contact us first — most problems can be solved directly. Any legal dispute will be handled in the courts located in Monroe County, New York, and either of us may bring a qualifying claim in small claims court.

12. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes apply to bookings made after the update; a job you've already booked stays under the Terms in place when you booked it.
